Seriously?!
Tuesday, 12 August 2008

While I know there haven't been nearly enough updates to this site recently, and I know this isn't really at all geek related, I figured it was so ridiculous, it needed to be covered.

Apparently, the Spanish Basketball team in an olympic level display of insensitivity decided to pull their eyes into slits in a team picture. More frightening are their claims of innocent intent:

"Although no offence was intended by either the players or the Spanish federation, the advertisement is unlikely to be viewed kindly at a time when the Spanish Olympic committe is pursuing a bid to stage the Games in 2016. "

No offence indeed. While reprehensible, at least blatant racism would have shown some intelligence (though rudimentary). If however, we are to believe no offence was intended, we are then required to believe that in some magical sequence of events, the entire team consisting of several north american players, germinated this idea foreseeing no consequences whatsoever. "Yes! what a good idea! How could anyone take offence at this inoffensive display!" I imagine them saying while throwing high-fives all around.

Here's the article

-Edit

People, I'm not making this up. One of my friends sent me another article about the incident, and it seems my mocking sarcasm above was more accurate than any normal person would dare to think.

"It happened in the photo session where the Spanish National Team was introduced; one of our sponsors asked us to pose with a “wink” to our participation in Beijing," Calderon wrote on his website.

We made an oriental expression with our eyes. We thought it was something appropriate and that it would always be interpreted as somewhat loving."

I have no words.

Critical Failure (IRON MAN SPOILERS)
Wednesday, 07 May 2008

You know it has just occurred to me that many of those tasked with reviewing movies simply aren't capable of doing so. This isn't really much of a revelation if you give the situation thought. Movies themselves are varied, with many different genres and target audiences. It's somewhat ridiculous to expect one person to review them all as they're presented with any real level of objectivity.

This I find explains the often incredulous reaction I have when reading certain reviewers who in many cases have clearly missed the point of the movie they're attempting to review. Too often they foist ideals upon a movie that while it does not meet them, was never intended to in the first place. It's very much like critiquing SD art citing stubbyness of limb and largeness of head as error. Generally though, my feelings on such reviews can be summed up with two repeating questions:

"What movie were they watching?!"
"What movie did they expect to see?!"

What the theft?
Wednesday, 30 April 2008

I was just responding to a friend on facebook and it occurred to me that I should probably post my views on this most popular topic (not the least of which because I haven't posted anything in ages)

Grand Theft Auto IV.

What the eff is wrong with people? It's taking all of my willpower to refrain from spewing forth an impenetrable paragraph of mocking leetspeak, but the crux of the issue is this: It makes no sense to me. The game is good, but it's no better than the original GTA which was exactly the same without the multiplayer aspect. Additionally it's not like GTA fans have been starved for sequels to the franchise. Pretty much everytime I turn around there's a new one with a different ethnic criminal sterotype to steer around a fictional city. Why line up for this one and not the last eleventy billion?

What exactly is the huge slaver-inducing draw that I'm missing? Is it just the fact that it's on next gen systems and so concievably should have near molecular accuracy? But it's supposed to be awesome! as though the torrent of perfect 10's being showered from the institutional heights are at all to be taken with anything less than a full quarry of salt. I'm sure ethics are enough to dissuade the artificial inflation of scores, and I'm equaly sure a pig just flew out of my nether regions.

Chuck Norris included
Monday, 24 March 2008

Holy cow! Is this an actual update?! You guys better rush out and check to make sure there's not some sort of apoclyptic event occurring outside!

Ok seriously, I know it's been a while since there's been any sort of correspondence from this end. Even our dancin friend below was getting fatigued. I've been rather busy recently what with the job and stuff ;) but I did find this site. I warn you that while it's hilarious, it does contain some bad language, so if that kind of stuff causes your eyebals to ignite with righteous ire, I've warned you.
